Green Apple Day of Service gives individuals, companies, and

organizations the opportunity to transform all our schools
into healthy, safe, cost-efficient and productive learning
places. The Green Apple initiative is powered by volunteers
who participate in community-based efforts; promoted by
media partners, like-minded NGOs and high-profile
ambassadors. The Green Apple Day of Service was created to get community
volunteers involved in improving areas in need. Dutch Forks Green Apple Day of
Service will be held on Friday, September 25, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. right
here at DFES. We have three projects we are interested in completing with help
from our community volunteers:
1. Fall weeding and re-mulching The Secret Garden.
2. Fall clean-up on the nature trail.
3. Placing pavers around the greenhouse and adding a cover to the floor of
the greenhouse.
If you are able to help with any of these projects on September 25, please email
Emily Perkins (eperkins@lexrich5.org) or call (476-3990) to register your help so
we will know how many volunteers to expect.

Join millions of families all over the country
who will be exercising together by
walking/running on Wednesday, October 7.
We will meet on the DFES Sports Field at 7:15 a.m. and walk/run around the field
with your parents (parents/guardians must accompany students). Parents can park
in back of the school near the field for this event. We will provide bottled water
after the run. Contact Coach Geurkink (tgeurkin@lexrich5.org) or
Coach Russell (hrussell@lexrich5.org) if you have any questions.

The PTO will begin selling yearbooks for the 2015-2016 school year. If
you would like to purchase one, please complete the form that was sent home with
your child. Turn in your envelope with the money by Friday, October 9, 2015. You

Parents,
I am very proud to watch over your children while they are in school. Over the past
couple of years I have made many lasting memories with many of your children and
look forward to making so many more. Fifth grade parents, we will soon begin
DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and I am excited to experience this
journey with them. Im sure they will bring home fun stories from our lessons
together. And, as a reminder, parking in the fire lanes is illegal. This applies to a
running vehicle with occupants. Please help us keep our fire lanes clear!

Parents~
My name is Seth Graham. I will be student teaching alongside Coach
Geurkink this semester at Dutch Fork Elementary. With hopes of graduating from
Newberry College this fall, I plan to begin my career teaching in the Lowcountry. I
am looking forward to working with each and every student to achieve their best
potential for my time spent at DFES. I plan to implement my knowledge and skills
into class each day to teach the rules, strategies and basics of each game we
cover. I participated in 3 years of college football at Newberry College, grew up in
Charleston, SC and have always looked forward to becoming a teacher. So far its
been a great experience getting to know all of your children. If you have any
