In this tutorial, audre steps you through the process she used to make Stormchaser, a weird art image which has won numerous awards and was showcased in the Poser 5 software manual. Please visit her website at: http://weird-art.com.
Before any project, it’s a good idea to have some idea of the overall method that will be employed. In this case, we wanted to create a facial portrait and planned on using a 3d model within Poser to accomplish this.
Working in digital is a bit more forgiving than traditional media because of the multiple levels of ‘UNDO’ that can be called upon and also the ability to branch at any time to try out an idea or hunch without jeopardizing the integrity of the original piece.
For Stormchaser, the freedom of experimentation inherent in digital media was instrumental in achieving this very unique look created from unlikely sources.
Using standard ‘off the shelf’ computer graphics applications, it’s relatively easy to start with something very simple, like a few photographs of lightning coming from the clouds to end up with a compelling portrait of an alien creature -- By making use of Photoshop’s marvelous layering features and controls, it’s possible to transform mundane photos into other-world textures. And, armed with other-worldly textures and utilizing Poser’s 3-D model posing, texturing, lighting and rendering capabilities, transforming a standard female mesh into the queen of storms is relatively quick, easy and fun!
