Broadmoor - Blight Remediation Intern (3)
Description:
Intern will work with The Broadmoor Development Corporation as an intern-team of three (3) toanalyze data and implement blight remediation strategies in the Broadmoor neighborhood.Intern-team will work under the direction of BDC Director of Housing Recovery, JonathanGraboyes, to execute the Broadmoor Blight Remediation Program.BDC data collection has identified 477 blighted residential properties in the neighborhood.Interns will work to implement and track recovery interventions for all 477 properties.Interventions will include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
contact and assist homeowners to draft recovery plans for their property
work with the city of New Orleans Code Enforcement to demolish or bring up to codeblighted property
work with the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) to acquire abandonedproperty for the BDC to renovate/reuse
coordinate with the BDC Existing Properties Department to identify rehab programs torepair income eligible property ownersThe BDC will look to staff a dynamic team of interns who possess a wide range of skill-sets.Applicants may have experience or look to gain experience with:
data collection/analysis
real estate development
working with city government
urban design/planning
social work skills
Management Goals:
Contact owners of blighted properties and work with them to problem solve recoveryobstacles
Implement blight remediation programs with BDC partners (i.e. City of N.O. CodeEnforcement, New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA), Rebuilding Together,Neighborhood Housing Services, etc)
Submit blighted properties to the appropriate programs
Track interventions in Broadmoor Database
Report intervention progress to BDC Director of Housing Recovery
Special Job Requirements (i.e. transportation, language, technical or otherskills):
Intern must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
General comfort using excel spreadsheets
Past experience or familiarity with public relations technology helpful
Intern must be able to work alone and with team members
Intern must be able to think, work, and function independently
Intern must possess a laptop or computer
Intern must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week)
