For nearly three decadesthe Food Bank has notonly provided nourish-ment to those strugglingin Southwest Virginia, but also a voice. This winter a nationalhunger study, as well as a visit fromGovernor Bob McDonnell, provided avenue through which the nation and stateheard the voices of this region’s hungry.After conducting more than 62,000 faceto face interviews with hungry clients and37,000 interviews with emergency foodagencies nationwide, the

study revealed staggeringincreases in emergency food assistance. Nationwide, Feeding America FoodBanks reported a 46 percent increase inthose receiving food assistance whencompared to the results of the study con-ducted four years ago.In Southwest Virginia the increase waseven more dramatic. Our Food Bank experienced a 60 percent increase inclients served annually compared to 2006.The study found that 201,700 people,
