Demand Red Light Camera Reform in Illinois

Illinois Politicians are taking BIG MONEY from powerful Red Light Camera lobbyists to keep the status quo
on Red Light Camera taxes in Illinois. We are told Red Light Cameras are installed to increase safety but they
aren’t. These machines are about taking $100 dollar bills from our pockets!!!

THE FACTS:

Red Light Cameras are a hidden tax to generate revenue while masquerading as a measure to keep us safer. Red Light
Camera companies take a percentage of EVERY TICKET, and are spending big money in Springfield to prevent reform
in Illinois.

Independent studies show that lowering yellow light times by 1 second increase red light violations by 100%, giving
Municipal Governments a financial incentive to reduce the length of the yellow light.  Instead of making us safer, Red
Light Cameras are creating more dangerous intersections.  They distract drivers and shorten yellow light times, which
increase the risk of accidents.

Red Light Cameras DO NOT improve safety, longer yellow light times do! “A study conducted by Texas A & M
University found that adding one second of yellow decreases crashes 35 to 40 percent and violations by 60 percent.” -
Jeff Goldblatt, FOX Chicago News, 08 Mar 2010
