Materials

1 old skirt (or 1 m linen type fabric)


1 doily
2 pillowcases
1 x 7” piece of rick rack or lace
Embroidery threads, I used red, green, brown and two multi’s

Cutting
9 - 6.5 x 8” rectangles from linen
9 - 6.5 x 8” rectangles from pillowcase
Cut the doily into 4 through the centre
Cut 2 x 3” strips lengthwise through the pillowcase for the binding.

Method
1. Trace the pictures onto the paper. I used an iron-on transfer pencil or trace using a light box.
2. Embroider using a variety of threads.
3. Hand sew the doily to each of four of the linen rectangles.
4. Sew lace or rick rack to bottom of ‘Joy’ rectangle
5. Pin backing to linen (right sides together) and sew three sides (not top)
6. Clip bottom corners and turn right sides out. Press.
7. Fold binding in half and press.
8. Open out and press each edge to the centre. Fold binding in half.
9. Pin flags at intervals in the binding and sew binding down.
10. Sew button onto heart.
11. Hang and enjoy.
