goal at this point is to be a primary care physician in a community-
based hospital similar to the one where I volunteered during my college
years. I hope to serve a multicultural patient population and specifically
provide preventive care to adolescents and women. Since enrolling at
Brown, I have participated in the Adolescent Health Education Project in
which groups of medical students visit local high schools and
community centers once a week to discuss health issues with teenagers.
Our topics include AIDS, alcohol and drugs, sexuality, teen pregnancy,
relationships and peer pressure.

Medical school at Brown brings with it an average annual cost of


$55,730. While I am receiving some scholarship assistance, I am also
borrowing from several student loan programs in order to cover my
tuition and living expenses. Without additional scholarship assistance,
my financial aid officer and I estimate that my educational debt at

My parents are nearing retirement and will soon be living on a fixed

penstock
diameter for the Trout Lake hydropower facility. I have reviewed the
proposed layout, and
determined the head losses and cost of various intake-penstock system
alternatives. My calculations on the intake-penstock system, assuming a 150
cfs total design discharge, 85 percent plant efficiency, and $4000/kW value
of power, indicate that a 130ft. diameter penstock above the bifurcation, and
a 85ft. diameter for the penstocks below the bifurcation would be the most
cost effective. My estimated construction cost for the intake penstock
system included the costs $13582.00, $20000.00, and $30000.00 .The total
estimated construction cost is $63582.00. The head losses of this system up
to the powerhouse are estimated to be 200ft. at the 150 cfs design discharge
for each turbine. I have attached my calculations and tables for your review.

back pay. The military compensation to be used for this calculation is
defined as base pay excluding all allowances, such as housing, uniform,
combat pay, spousal allowance, etc. as well as overtime pay, shift differential
pay, hazardous duty pay or any other additional compensation received for
military service.

Orchard Middle School is pleased to present this proposal for your review.
We look forward to partnering with you to provide a reading intervention
program for our students with poor reading skills called Read to Succeed!
Orchard Middle School has over 50 at risk students with a reading
performance of at least two years behind their current grade level. The
objective of the Read to Succeed! program is to help all students with poor
reading skills learn to read at grade level and increase their reading speed,
comprehension, and reading attention span.

During the last year, we have been piloting the Read to Succeed! program
with a small group of students with poor reading skills and have seen
dramatic improvements with most of the students increasing their reading
ability by one to two grade levels. The Read to Succeed! program provides
students with access to assistive reading systems, along with training for
classroom teachers and reading specialists.

We have seen measurable success and we are now seeking to expand our
Read to Succeed! program to address the needs of all the at risk students in
the Orchard Middle School. Our proposal requests $16,504 in funding to
obtain the software, hardware, and training necessary to equip the Orchard
Middle School resource room with five assistive reading systems, each
including a computer, scanner and assistive reading software.
