Intern will work with the YMCA

s Summer Program at Andrew H. Wilson Charter School in theBroadmoor neighborhood. The Wilson Summer Program serves upwards of 100 children, ages5-15 from the Broadmoor neighborhood and the greater New Orleans area. Each lead teacher will beresponsible for 15-20 students throughout the course of the day.Lead teachers will be responsible for planning and implementing daily academic and extracurricularlessons in the areas of -
Literacy-
Math-
Expressive Arts-
Physical EducationAll teachers will participate in an intensive training period prior to the start of the program, equippingthem with skills in leadership and classroom management, experiential learning and literacy/mathcurriculum building. In addition, lead teachers will be required to attend weekly class sessions buildingdiscussion around curriculum construction and progressive pedagogy. This will be supplemented bylectures from local teachers, administrators and summer programming specialists. All teachers will besupervised and mentored by curriculum coordinators.

Able to attend all professional development sessions over the course of the summer-
Demonstrated leadership abilities-
Creative-
Ability to take initiative and improvise-
Has past experience working with children and can manage classroom behavior-
Can independently plan a day

Is able to work with a diverse group of co-teachers and students-
Can pass a background check-
Car and computer are helpful but not required
