What are we filling up our children with?

Experiences stay for life. They cannot be removed. Some can be forgotten, but rarely. What
kind of experiences are we filling up ourselves with? Or for that matter to the parents, what
are we filling our children experiences with? For many of us adults, we are already into so
many experiences that we cannot rid them off. They come back over and over again
occasionally, and all the time sometimes.

I thank my parents for bringing me to church from young, but I joined the world from army
onwards, and now in my mid thirties, I’d say used to want the world much more than God.
To say the least, the experiences of the world do come back to tempt me. Yes, more of the
world, more of the temptations. God has been merciful to me by calling me back, showing
to me that I am living a life that is away from God. Doing good is one thing, living Godly life
is another thing. However, one can surely tell a godless person. Even the blind can hear
them.

I say, “Godly life will naturally bring out good works, but good works does not bring out
Godly life.”

Discipline
The beauty of the Bible is that, we do not need to be a Professor, or a Doctor to understand
the basics of it. It’s clear and straight forward! Of course to go deeper, that’s another story.
I want to go deeper, but with the current knowledge, it is a good start. Being a parent
myself, I have a new generation to bring up. How to bring up the child? Some biblical
examples.

1. Proverbs 22:6 KJVTrain up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he
will not depart from it.
Which way? Godly way.
2. Ephesians 6:4 NLT Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you
treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes
from the Lord.
3. Prov 13:24 KJVHe that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him
chasteneth him betimes.

Experiences
This I believe is applicable throughout our lives. Of course starting young reaps the most
benefit, good Godly experiences maintained through life is probably “heaven on earth” so to
speak. Or are we leading them to the way of hell? All of worldly desires? Exposing them to
through movies, fantasy books, fantasy games, experiences filled with violence, sex, crazy
things like ogre, dragons, elves, hobbits? Lord of the Ring?

1 John 2:16 – For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
What are we exposing our children to?

Fill up the mind and soul

We are learning and experiencing many things every day. What learning and experiencing
are we putting on? Are we putting more of perishable knowledge or eternal knowledge? We
certainly need to gear ourselves up to survive in this world, but God also promises that he
will take care of us. So we need some balance here. We are already being saturated by
knowledge of the world via mass media, the sights, the audio, the touch senses in our day
to day life. What little time we have left, certainly deserves some portion to God if not all.

From the chart below, I have divided our day to day experiences to the following categories:

1. Neutral – Factual matters stays. Technology fades away. Environment changes.


Good, but not good enough for eternal value.
2. Ungodly – Totally Zeroes in Moral, Social and Godly values. Yet we can relate to
many of them every day! They just come to us naturally.
3. Godly – Almost absent in our daily life unless we go for it. Consciously, deliberately
going for it. For some, this has become a daily life. Good for you!

So what now?

More of God, moderate of the neutral, abstain from the world and anything that
leads into the world.

Jn 12:31 - KJV Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world
(satan, the devil) be cast out.
The prince of this world is the evil one, the devil.

Rev 21:8 – NLT "But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral,
those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars--their fate is in the fiery
lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 – KJV
9Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not
deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor

10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall
inherit the kingdom of God.
11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Treasures in heaven (Matthew 6 – Words of Jesus)


19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves break through and steal:
20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be
full of light.
23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that
is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or
else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
