(born July 19, 1920-1998) in Pont-L'Eveque, France; son of Maurice and Marie (James) Bucaille was a French medicaldoctor, member of the French Society of Egyptology, andauthor. Bucaille practiced medicine from 1945-82 and was aspecialist in gastroenterology. In 1973, Bucaille was appointedfamily physician to King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Other of hispatients at the time included members of the family of President Anwar Sadat of Egypt. In 1976, while still in theservice of the king, he published his book,
The Bible, TheQur'an and Science
which argued that the Qur`an contains nostatements contradicting establishes scientific fact. In 1991,another book by Bucaille,
Mummies of the Pharaos: Modern Medical Investigations,
was published in English.
Moses and Pharaoh of the Exodus
Dr. Maurice Bucaille, after a thorough research proved thatalthough Rameses II was known to have persecuted theIsraelites as per the Bible, he actually died while Moses (pbuh)was taking refuge in Median. In 1898, the mummified body of Merneptah was found in the valley of Kings in Egypt. In 1975,Dr. Maurice Bucaille with other doctors received permissionto examine the Mummy of Merneptah, the findings of whichproved that Merneptah probably died from drowning or aviolent shock which immediately preceeded the moment of drowning. Thus the Qur`anic verse that we shall save his bodyas a sign, has been fulfilled by the Pharaohs` body being keptat the Royal Mummies room in the Egyptian Museum inCairo. This verse of the Qur`an compelled Dr. Maurice Bucaille, whowas a Christian then, to study the Qur`an. He later wrote a

book "The Bible, the Qur`an and Science", and confessed thatthe author of the Qur`an can be no one else besides GodHimself. Thus he embraced Islam.
The story of Moses (pbuh) and the Pharaohof the Exodus are very much identical in theQur`an and the Bible. Both scriptures agreethat the Pharaoh drowned when he tried topursue Moses (pbuh) and led the Israelitesacross a stretch of water that they crossed
.
The Qur`an gives an additional piece of information in Surah Yunus chapter 10verse 92:"This day shall We save thee in thybody, that thou mayest be a sign to thosewho come after thee! But verily, manyamong mankind are heedless of Our Signs!"
 [Al-Qur`an 10:92]..
 Maurice Bucaille
Maurice Bucaille, who worked as chief of the Surgical Clinic, University of Paris, was deeply interested in the correspondences between the teachings of Scripture and modern secular knowledge. After a decade-long study, Dr.Maurice Bucaille addressed the French Academy of Medicine in 1976 concerningthe existence in the Qur`an of certain statements on physiology andreproduction. He reasoned that: "...our knowledge of these disciplines is such, that it is impossible to explain how a text produced at the time of the Qur`ancould have contained ideas that have only been discovered in modern times"That year, Maurice Bucaille published
La Bible, le Coran et la science
. "TheBible, The Qur'an and Science"The book proved to be enormously popular andhas been translated into languages spoken throughout the Muslim world.Enthusiasts consider this work as one of the most important ever on Islam andscience discourse. The opponents of this approach label this trend as"Bucaillism". The book analyzes the scriptures in the light of modern scientificknowledge and identifies contradictions between established scientific facts andscriptures. The author analyzes creationism vs. evolution, astronomy, theconception in the womb, separation of water in subterranean oceanic rivers, and

other issues, and attempts to document each point he makes. The generalcontents of
The Bible, the Qur`an and Science
are:

The Old Testament examines the origins of the Bible, describes thebooks of the Old Testament, highlights evidence of science in the OldTestament (i.e. creation of the world, date of creation and appearance of mankind, the flood), critically examines scientific error.
The Gospels explores sources and history of the text of the gospels, genealogy of Jesus, modern science and the gospels, contradictions andimprobabilities in descriptions in the gospels.
The Qur`an and Modern Science examines the authenticity of theQur`an, identifies scientific phenomena described in the Qur`an (creationof heavens and earth, astronomy, earth science, water cycle, animal andplant kingdoms, human reproduction).
Qur`anic and Biblical Narrations draws parallels between theQur`anic and Bibilical texts and modern knowledge, dealing specificallywith the narrations of the Flood and the Exodus
Qur`an, Hadiths and Modern Science
General Conclusions
List of Quotations from the Qur`anBucaille`s other work,
"Mummies of the Pharaohs - Modern Medical  Investigations"
(St. Martins Press, 1990), won a History Prize from the AcademieFrancaise and another prize from the French National Academy of Medicine.During the last three decades of the twentieth century, a number of social, political and economic factors contributed to the spread and popularity of suchliterature. Various state-sponsored institutions have organized conferences andseminars in which scientists link specific verses of the Qur`an to specific data andtheories of modern science to prove (i) that the Qur`an is really a book of God,revealed to the Prophet of Islam because such specific scientific information wasunknown during his life and (ii) that the Qur`an contains all scientific knowledgeand it is for science and scientists to discover this knowledge. This approach isencumbered with an emotional, psychological, even political, baggage and hasbeen opposed and challenged by serious scholarship. But its mass popularityremains uncontestable. This has given rise to a great deal of apologetic literature, including hundreds of websites which attempt to prove that the Qur`an is, infact, the word of God because it contains scientific theories and facts whichmodern science has only recently discovered.Note:Some claim that Maurice Bucaille didn't convert to Islam,,,It doesn'tmatter...But who reads the book, knows the truth...
