An Easier Way to Think about Business Technology
The Business Technology Planning Model (BTPM)
The Business Technology Planning Model (BTPM) has been created with the goal of establishing a simple framework for discussing technologies and the ways in which these technologies relate to each other. Consisting of the five key technology areas of creation, connectivity, communication, collaboration, and conduct (management), this framework models these key technologies in relation to internal expertise and resource, compliance and litigation requirements, and growth and cost pressures Additionally, this model presents these relationships through the lens of both small/medium business implementations and enterprise implementations of technology. While not all inclusive, this model and corresponding definitions should help in structuring technology discussions in a manner that can accelerate understanding of technology topics related to business environments.
