Major Professional Experience
Assistant Librarian, University of Minnesota, Duluth – 2004 to present. This is areference, instruction, and collection development position with subjectresponsibilities in philosophy, composition, foreign languages, art, and theatre. Specialactivities include the leadership of a Reference Tech team, which exploresexperimental applications of technology for library service; participation on theCopyright Team; assistance in organizing the annual Northeast Minnesota Book Awards; and the initiation of a professional reading group.Consulting Librarian, California Labor History Map project, California ResearchBureau, California State Library – 2002-2003. This position included a mix of originalhistorical research and research support in labor history using primary, secondary, andtertiary sources, as well as coordination of the project’s advisory committee. Researchsupport involved database design and maintenance as well as sophisticated referenceconsultation with the project historian.Reference Librarian, California Research Bureau, California State Library – 2001-2002. This position involved reference service to staff members of the CaliforniaLegislature involving complex questions under significant time-pressure, team-based participation in the production of a policy-related current-awareness service, andreference service to Bureau researchers.Library Services Director, National Hispanic University, San Jose, California, 1999-2001. This position involved library management and solo provision of professionalservice in a small, unique academic library. Special accomplishments during this jobwere successful preparation for a visit from the regional academic accreditingassociation (resulting in a positive decision); a major weeding project; completion of retrospective cataloging, and the design and implementation of an experimental creditcourse in information literacy.
