The Transverse Myelitis Association and the Johns Hopkins Project RESTORE (the TM and MS Centers) are co-sponsoring this 2008 Rare Neuroimmunologic Disorders Symposium. The symposium is for patients with autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system including TM, MS, ADEM and NMO. The purpose of this symposium is to bring together patients, their caregivers, clinicians and researchers to better understand these diseases. Our first meeting was in 1999 in Seattle and we have since continued these symposia biennially to raise awareness, to advocate for and to educate the patient and physician community and to stimulate collaborative research on these disorders. The goal of this symposium is to provide an overview of the related neuro-immunologic diseases, symptom management, discuss the latest research in novel therapies, including cell-based restorative treatments.
The symposium goals extend beyond disease management to caregivers and support groups for these chronic illnesses. The symposium is an educational and networking opportunity for people with these neuroimmunologic diseases, their caregivers, medical professionals, as well as scientists and physicians.
