The drive concept
The development was still viewedwith scepticism a ew years ago, butintensive industrial trials have provedKBA’s sheeted oset designers right:Dedicated drives with liquid-cooledhigh-torque motors now orm the hearto DriveTronic SPC.Successul interdisciplinary optimisationhas achieved previously unknown powerdensities. All parts which come intocontact with the cooling medium aremanuactured in stainless steel.
Simultaneous plate change with
The plate changing process now takes just one minute, irrespective o thenumber o printing units. At the sametime, urther valuable unctions areavailable to the operator:
All settings at the eed line are motor-ised. To urther reduce makeready times, the operator is oered clear, graphics-based menu screens with access to:
o the image relative to the rontedge o the sheet)
pensate inaccurately cut substrates)
lays, should the leading edge o thesheet not be straight
accommodate dierent substratethicknesses
DriveTronicSideLay(SIS = Sensoric Ineed System)
With DriveTronic Side Lay, a conven-tional side lay is no longer necessary. The sheet is pulled to its correct lateral alignment not on the eed table, butinstead by way o an axially shitedgripper bar on its way to the impres-sion cylinder. The positioning is denedat the console and can be preselectedwith the job changeover program. Asthe sheet no longer has to be pulled, more time is available or alignment atthe eed line, which naturally promotesan excellent eed register. DriveTronicSideLay earned KBA the 2007 GATF InterTech Technology Award o thePrinting Industries o America/GraphicArts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF).
Special register marks on the platesare used to preset the registration orall plate cylinders beore printing evenbegins. At the same time, DriveTronicPlate Ident reads a data matrix codecopied onto the plates to ensure thateach plate is assigned to the correctunit on the press.
Four independent, electronically con-trolled drives or
non-stop operationeliminate wear-prone eeder compo-nents such as clutches, cardan shatsand timing gears. Ultimate presetcapabilities provide or exceptionallyreduced makeready.
