I turned the key in the door.The laughing joy of it all!Behind me, behind the front door.Two little rug rats, spilling dabs of cheerio milk On their fresh set of pants.Just laundered last night.Just a bit. Oh sure. It will smell a bitLater on.Drops of cereal-stained milk does.But they will smell of many wonderful adventuresLater on.Adventures of a made up game involving a stick and an imaginaryItem of the greatest awesome value,Adventures of friendship, and growing upAnd exploring just a bit past the property line,Just to test it all. ThoseTwo little rug rats whose blonde headsAre so good to rub on my way out to work.“Dudes…watch OUT with the MILK, huh?”They’d already mastered the all-purpose male nod and groanThe one that said, for them“Yeah, right. Will do. Now, outta my way, the raison d ‘etre of this cartoonIs about to be revealedOn THAT there TV.”I use it during football gamesMyself At times.If I must Be honest.If I must be honest, those twoOf the big adventuresAre pure sunshine on your closed eyesOn that first warm wondrous day of spring.All anyone ever needed.And I turned the key in the door, that evening.And a cacophonous noise of shouts rose up in young warbled throats.“Dad-dude.
