What is the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation)?The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is an international non-profit digitalrights advocacy and legal organization based in the United States. The EFF issupported by donations and is based in San Francisco, California, with staff members in Washington, D.C. They are accredited observers at the WorldIntellectual Property Organization and one of the participants of the GlobalNetwork Initiative.
It provides funds for legal defense in court, defends individualsand new technologies from the chilling effects of what it considers baseless ormisdirected legal threats, works to expose government malfeasance, providesguidance to the government and courts, organizes political action and massmailings, supports some new technologies which it believes preserve personalfreedoms, maintains a database and web sites of related news and information,monitors and challenges potential legislation that it believes would infringe onpersonal liberties and fair use, and solicits a list of what it considers patent abuseswith intentions to defeat those that it considers without merit.2.
Who is Lawrence Lessig?Lawrence "Larry" Lessig is an American academic and political activist. He is bestknown as a proponent of reduced legal restrictions on copyright, trademark, andradio frequency spectrum, particularly in technology applications. He is a directorof the Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics at Harvard University and aprofessor of law at Harvard Law School. Prior to rejoining Harvard, he was aprofessor of law at Stanford Law School and founder of its Center for Internet andSociety. Lessig is a founding board member of Creative Commons, a boardmember of the Software Freedom Law Center and a former board member of theElectronic Frontier Foundation.3.
What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to making it easier forpeople to share and build upon the work of others, consistent with the rules ofcopyright. It provides free licenses and other legal tools to mark creative work withthe freedom the creator wants it to carry, so others can share, remix, usecommercially, or any combination thereof.
