It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat Lean.

Pat was born in Pouce Coupe, BC
with his twin brother Leslie. He loved
the Nicola Valley and served as government agent for many years. Pat was
instrumental in creating Merritts coat
of arms, flag and motto. He also belonged to the NV Archives, Canadian
Cancer Society and the Catholic
Church, and was an honourary member of the Knights of Columbus.
Pat had many hobbies, including
stamp collecting, history, writing,
reading and enjoying a coffee. One of
his favourites, though was walking,
and he always loaded his pockets with
dog cookies for the furry friends he
met along his walking route.
But Pats greatest love was his family his children granchildren and
great grandchildren.
Pat was a man of great strength and
character. He was proud of his work
and very humble about it. He truly
loved people and was very kind and
compassionate.
Pat fought valiantly through medical conditions the last few years of his
life, and never complained but always
had a big smile on his face.
Pat is survived by his loving wife
Carmelle, sons Eddie (Laura) and
Donny (Michele), daughter Mona, numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins,
friends and relatives. Pat is predeceased by his daughter Debra Rose,
two brothers Leslie and Robert, his
mother Demaris and father Meredith.
There will be a celebration of Pats
life to be held in Merritt, at a later date
to be announced. In lieu of flowers,
please donate to a charity of your
choice in Pats name.
Its such a clich, but it was with a
fully encumbered & crushingly heavy
heart that I received the news of Pats
passing. I met Pat when I first moved
to Merritt and joined the museum
board 23 years ago. From the first moment, he treated me like a friend &
daughter. I soon realized that he was a
Renaissance man: learned, keenly interested in everything (current and
past), a researcher, a historian, and a
lover of art. After he retired as govt
agent, Pat ran a bookstore & Catholic
gift shop. He wrote many information
booklets for the museum, and was a
founding director of Baillie House/NV
Heritage Society.
But above all, Pat was an enlightened & kind observer of people and
life, with a gentle faith, an upbeat attitude, a beautiful smile & always a
twinkle in his clear blue eyes.
