Through theirstudies, students can expect to achieve greater fluency, accuracyand confidence in the language. Students will also learn how totranslate material from English into the language.2.
IGCSE First Language Arabic:
Designed for students whosemother tongue is Arabic, this First Language syllabus develops theability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively. Studentslearn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correctgrammar, spelling and punctuation, and develop a personal styleand an awareness of the audience being addressed. Students arealso encouraged to read widely, both for their own enjoyment andin order to develop an appreciation of how writers achieve theireffects. The syllabus also complements other areas of study byencouraging skills of more general application3.
: Arabic as a Foreign Language: This is an examinationdesigned for students learning Arabic as a foreign language. Theaim is to develop an ability to use the language effectively forpurposes of practical communication. The course is based on thelinked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing,and these are built on as students progress through their studies. The syllabus also aims to offer insights into the culture andcivilisation of countries where the language is spoken, thusencouraging positive attitudes towards language learning andtowards speakers of foreign languages.4.
: Arabic: O Level Arabic requires students to demonstratetheir ability to write effectively in a range of registers, from letter
and report writing to more creative topics offering room for apersonal response. Students are encouraged to build theirawareness of the structure of the language, through study of itsconstruction and practice in manipulating it. The variety of passages chosen for comprehension exercises, with their emphasison the cultural and historical context of the regions in which thelanguage is in regular use, encourages students to read widely andbuild a valuable knowledge base.
