Tofind latching current:
Apply about 20 V between Anode and Cathode by varying V
.Keep the load potentiometer R
at minimum position.2.The device must be in the OFF state with Gate open.
Gradually increase Gate voltage V
till the device turns ON.
This is the minimum Gate current (i
minimum) required to turnON the device.5.Adjust the Gate voltage to a slightly higher. Set the loadpotentiometer at the maximum resistance position. The deviceshould come to OFF state.
Otherwise decrease V
till the device comes to OFF state. TheGate voltage should be kept constant in this experiment.
By varying R
, gradually increase anode current 1A in steps openand close the Gate voltage V
switch after each step.8.If the anode current is greater than the latching current of thedevise the device says ON even after the Gate switch is opened.9.Otherwise the devise goes in to blocking mode as soon as theGate switch is opened. Note the latching current obtain moreaccurate value of the latching current by taking small steps of 1Anear the latching current values.
