Front annular intake with pointed spinner.
. Three-stage, titanium blade fan with bypass ratioof 0.35 (0.36 for the M53-P2). No inlet guide vanes.
The three-stage fan is followed by afive-stage HP compressor, both sections on a singleshaft. Pressure ratio is 9.0:1 at 10,200 rpm, 9.8:1 for theM53-P2. Air flow of 189.6 lb/sec (86 kg/sec) for M53-5; the M53-P2 has a mass flow of 207.2 lb/sec(94 kg/sec). No inlet guide vanes. Titanium rotor blades and discs.
Single, annular combustor of smoke-free, pre-vaporizing design.
Two axial turbine stages drive the combinedfan and HP spool, which are on a single shaft. The twoturbine stages are cooled.
Accessory drives, front roller bearingand ball thrust bearing housed in mid-frame located between the fan and the compressor. For single-engineinstallation, the following options are available: anemergency lubrication system; an aircraft hydraulicsystem; an emergency drive or emergency fuel system;and a hydraulic system emergency drive. The controlsystem includes a hydroelectronic control associatedwith an electronic computer designed by Elecma.Exhaust nozzles for M53 engines for Greek Air ForceMirage 2000 aircraft built in Greece by HellenicAerospace Industries (HAI).
