When your Academic Writing 1 Task is graded by IELTS examiners, they look for this
should describe the purpose of report and say what overall trends you see.For example, if the graph is climbing up or dropping down, you should mention that.Youneed to remember that you are describing a graph to someone who doesn’t see it. Writewhat the graph is about, its dates and location.
should describe the most important trends, while all information is summarized toavoid unnecessary details. For example, if there is a graph that has 2 peaks, you shouldmention them; tell when those peaks appeared and what the peak values are.Notice howmany distinctive features diagram has and divide information into paragraphs, one paragraph for one feature. You should link the paragraphs by sentences that logicallyconnect them to one another.
You need to write about all the periods of time and all the subjects of graph.If itshows several years (1992, 1993, 1994) – write about all of them, if it is about men andwomen – write about both. Remember, summarizing doesn’t mean throwing awayinformation. The secret here is to select what’s important, organize it, compare andcontrast.

The graph shows Underground Station Passenger Numbers in London.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main
features, and make comparisons where relevant.* You should write at least 150 words.* You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
model answer:
The graph shows the fluctuation in the number of people at a Londonunderground station over the course of a day.The busiest time of the day is in the morning. There is a sharp increasebetween 06:00 and 08:00, with 400 people using the station at 8o'clock. After this the numbers drop quickly to less than 200 at 10o'clock. Between 11 am and 3 pm the number rises, with a plateau of  just under 300 people using the station.In the afternoon, numbers decline, with less than 100 using the stationat 4 pm. There is then a rapid rise to a peak of 380 at 6pm. After 7 pm,numbers fall significantly, with only a slight increase again at 8pm,
tailing off after 9 pm.Overall, the graph shows that the station is most crowded in the earlymorning and early evening periods.

The line graph shows estimated sales of gold in Dubai for 12 months in 2002 in millions of dirhams. There were two main seasons for gold sales.The main season for sales is in the December to May period. Sales were
