Andoain – Lekunberri (42 km)
Don’t let the idea of a 600m climb put you off. The incline on the Vía Verde del Plazaola is so gentle that you won’tnotice the incline, and the views along the way are incredible. Best of all, almost all of today’s route takes place onroutes that have very little, if any, traffic. Remember to bring a flashlight or headlight in case
KmYou need to….
0.0ANDOÄIN train station. Exit the station, turn LEFT and ride 50M to the roundabout whichseparates the two white apartment buildings, then take the first right to get onto CaminoTrentxikito (goes uphill.)
0.750Once you reach the top of the hill, you’ll see the beginning of the Vía Verde, right beside theTourist Office. The Plaza Mayor is off to the right (look for the church.)
1,4Watch for signs that show where the VV crosses the street and continues on the left hand side.
2,9First tunnel along the Vía Verde (illuminated). When you get out of the tunnel, take the path that’sdirectly ahead (on the other side of the parking lot.)
8,0Train bed diverts around a hill around a collapsed tunnel. Be careful with loose gravel.
25.0Trail goes under the A15 highway; border between Guipúzcoa and Navarra
26.4ARESO. Several bars and restaurants (open on weekends) along the VV.
28LEITZA. If you don’t want to do the Uitzi tunnel, take the highway up to the pass.
37Uitzi tunnel. Don’t forget your flashlight!
42Lekunberri. Station, tourist office and campsite are on the other (south) side of town.
