A. Background of the study
During our thirdday of hospital duty at AmangRodriguez Medical CenterPedia Ward, we encountereda patient with Acute Glomerulonephritis. Mr. J VS, 4years old, was admitted with the chief complaint of edema and swelling of the testicles on February 20,2010.Acute glomerulonephritis refers to a specific setof renal diseases in which an immunologic mechanismtriggers inflammation and proliferation of glomerulartissue that can result in damage to the basementmembrane, mesangium, or capillary endothelium.Thereare many diseases that cause an active inflammationwithin the glomeruli. Some of these diseases aresystemic and some occur solely in the glomeruli. Whenthere is active inflammation within the kidney, scartissue may replace normal, functional kidney tissue andcause irreversible renal impairment.
