the chances are slim, even in this photo no one died. It shows the power of love at work.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell if the sewage pipe is broken until something happens. It did!

another blogger 31 May, 2008

whats a underlying sewage pipe?
if there was a broken pipe shouldn't there be people from the city fixing these things?

El Capitan: I was amazed to read (i googled it also) that no one was killed. How amazing is that!

El Capitán 30 May, 2008

Kenosis23: Kudos to you my friend. I did a google for "hole in the ground" and found a bunch of news articles related to this picture. I guess it WAS caused by an underlying sewage pipe that had burst. The earth above the pipe and below the village became saturated and ...a picture is worth 1000 words. It just looks so scary. I guess the hole is 200 to 300 feet deep. That's a looooooong way for the ground beneath your feet to fall. Geesh

Another Blogger: Yes. It happens a lot in Florida. Can you imagine waking up in the morning only to discover half your house has fallen into a big hole in the ground? The Maya used to ritually chuck virgins into such holes as sacrifices to the gods.

another blogger 27 May, 2008

wow that can really happen?

Kenosis23 27 May, 2008

El Capitan: It looks, to me like a "sink Hole" caused by the ground collapsing after the underlying geological strata has been removed by the action of water.

looks like a giant bullet went through the ground
