Religion is not about what
man has portrayed it to be. It
is man’s acknowledgement
that he/she is not alone. That
death is not the end. Man’s
perpetual fear of non-

“staying power” of religion.

provides a source of comfort

ed in all of our lives. It is
when we look to God to
“take away our short com-
ings” that we end up disap-
pointed and confused.
When we realize that after
faithful prayer and adher-
ence to the principles of our
chosen faith, that we are
still left with the very same
person we started with.
There is a very good reason
for that. God, it seems, does
not “fix” people. Nor does
he/she/it make us rich or
good looking. He doesn’t
augment our character or
make us popular. I have
never seen anyone who be-
came a better person do it
through prayer alone. Faith
can do wonderful things for
some people. It allows them
to compartmentalize their
life and gain some measure
of peace.

Rise in overdoses in Watertown
despite recent arrests
Despite recent residential raids by
the Jefferson Metropolitan Drug Task
Force, there has been a rise in Emer-
gency Room admissions of Heroin
and/or Opiate overdoses. In a study
done by the National Institute of
Drug Abuse, The number of known
drug addicts in Watertown has risen
from 10.5% in 1998 to 13% in 2009.
(that’s 13% of a population that is
roughly 30,000/ or 3900 addicts in
Watertown. But that only takes into
account those that are known. If you
include the users that not known the
number is much higher)
