America's infrastructure is in dire need of proper,sustained attention
In 2005, the American Society of Civil Engineers(ASCE), evaluated the current state of thecountry's roads, bridges, aviation systems,drinking water, and schools
ASCE's 2005 Report Card for America'sInfrastructure gave the nation's infrastructure agrade of "D" and called for a five-year investmentof $1.6 trillion
The 2009 Report Card Ggaderemains at a grade
of “D” but the total required 5 year investment
now stands at $2.2 trillion
California Statewide NeedsAssessment Project
Cities and counties own and operate over 81% of the roadmileage in California, where every trip begins and ends
The League of California Cities, California State Association of Counties, County Engineers Association of California, and other local and regional transportationagencies recently completed a statewide assessment of road conditions
The assessment captured data for more than 93% of localstreets and roads in California, with 85% of data comingfrom industry recognized pavement management systems
