OUES PTO General Meeting
Wednesday, February 17
, 2010 9:15 a.m.
Meeting started at 9:25 a.m.
Martha welcomed everyone for attending and called the meeting toorder. She told everyone that OUES received $1000 from CentralMarket’s CISD November Shopping day.
Relay for Life
It will be held May 21
7pm at Carroll High School. There will beteams of 10 to 15 people running/walking in honor or memory of someone with cancer.
Relay For Life Urging Teams To Sign Up
Carroll ISD is continuing its commitment to Rachel’s Challenge by hitting the track and staying up allnight. The district is hosting
 on May 21-22 which will be held at Carroll HighSchool and is the American Cancer Society’s significant fundraiser.This will mark Southlake’s biggest community event and involves hundreds of teams of 8-15 walkers.Team members will have at least one representative on the track at all times and it will be an overnightevent. Individuals commit to raising at least $100 for their team by fundraising efforts and donationsfrom family and friends. Teams can be composed of students, friends, organizations, church groups,etc.The event extends the district’s focus on the Rachel’s Challenge program. This program wasimplemented by the Carroll school district last year and encourages participants to commit to acts of kindness. The program is based on the journal writings of Rachel Scott, a teenager who died in theColumbine High School tragedy of 1999.As part of the event, Dana Scott, the sister of Rachel Scott, will be the guest speaker and kick off theactivities.Relay For Life of Southlake event chair is Tracey Flores and Kristie Millican is team chair. Website/Facebook Updates
 The OUES PTO websitehttp://www.ouespto.com/has a form that canbe filled out if anyone is interested in any of the PTO positions. ThePTO is currently looking for committee chairs and will form fullcommittees when chair people are in place.
 There is also a fundraising survey that will be communicated to theOUES community to take so that the PTO will have feedback on whatfundraising will be done next year.
 The Parent Resources Section will have info available to parents ondifferent topics.
Depending on what positions get filled with the online form requeststhe Nominating Committee may not be needed. You can alsocontact Kirsty Gelberd jkgelberd@mac.com if there is a person that you feel they may be a good fit for a PTO position.
Fundraising Suggestions
 The PTO is looking for fundraising options for next year. There is asurvey on the OUES PTO website to get feedback. The decisionabout fundraising will be decided by around the 2
week of March
Treasurer’s Report
Fall Fundraiser is pretty set with a few expenses left to come in. Theprofit from the Fall Fundraiser is $24,500.
 The spirit shop is doing really well and has exceeded the profit thatwas projected for the year. There are still a few spirit shop days leftin the school year and those are stated on the PTO website.
 The taxes were due on 2/15 and they have been paid and theaccountant has been paid.
 There may be a 2
disbursement of PTO funds at end of year.
 The initial payment of $7800 was paid for the production of theyearbooks.
No summer school expenses will be incurred by the PTO this year.
Campus Update
Old Union will be closed for the summer. The wiring in the schoolwill be updated for phone and video and a security entrance by thefront office will be built. The school will open the 2
or 3
week of August. With the bond package approval OUES will eventually have4 student computers and 1 teacher computer in each classroom. The promethean boards will be put in the classrooms this summer.
During Dragon Days(groups of students from different grades) theteachers meet in their learning communities that include all gradesin each group.
OUES received a $10k grant from district for teachers to learn morethrough writing workshops.
