Békaa Valle

The fertile Békaa Valley stretches between the MountLebanon chain to the west and the Anti-Lebanon mountainsto the east. Throughout history, the valley has been a majorcrossroad between northern Syria and Palestine, and betweenthe Mediterranean coast and the interior. This favorablegeographic situation has encouraged human settlement inthe valley since ancient times. Today, the cities and villagesof the Békaa still preserve the remains of the people wholived there centuries ago. Roman temples, Islamic structures, and archaeological sites dating from many different historicalperiods transform the valley into a virtual “open-air museum.”
