Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was married to Khadija (ra) who was very wealthy woman. So he did not need wealth. In fact Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was rich before prophet hoodand he became very poor when he started to spread Islam.
. When he started spreading the message of Allah (swt) that God is only one, the wholeMecca was against him and the unbelievers used to hurt him by physical means, psychological means and they used to torture Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by any meanspossible. Why would Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) create this situation for himself? If he wanted to earn money, he could have done it to do things in favor of Arabs or throughany other means but we find that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) went against the Arabs, hetaught them not to worship idols and worship only one God and this message of ProphetMuhammad (pbuh) ignited the fire in Arabs. Why he went against the Arabs for wealth? Heknew that spreading this message to them would result in the Arabs would fall on him like apredator on its prey, and this is what took place. Why would he put himself in this harm wayto earn money? I can give you many examples of the cruelty of pagans of Quraish toProphet Muhammad (pbuh). His life was made miserable by the pagans. This clearly showsthat his motive was not to earn money.
. Once a representative of the pagan Arab by the name of Udba came to the prophet andsaid… ‘If you give up this claim of prophet hood, we will give you all the wealth in Arabia. We will make you the leader of Arabia and crown you the king. Only thing that we want isthat you should give up this message that there is only one God’ and the prophet refused.
. Look what happens when the pagans approach to Abu Talib the second time: “…The pagans of Makkah therefore decided to approach Abu Talib for the second time andinsisted that he put a stop to his nephew's activities, which if allowed unchecked, they said, would involve him into severe hostility. Abu Talib was deeply distressed at this open threatand the breach with his people and their enmity, but he could not afford to desert theMessenger too.He sent for his nephew and told him what the people had said, "Spare me and yourself andput not burden on me that I can't bear." Upon this the Prophet (Peace be upon him) thoughtthat his uncle would let him down and would no longer support him, so he replied:"O my uncle! by Allah if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left oncondition that I abandon this course, until Allah has made me victorious, or I perish therein, I would not abandon it."The Prophet (Peace be upon him) got up, and as he turned away, his uncle called him andsaid, "Come back, my nephew," and when he came back, he said, "Go and preach what youplease, for by Allah I will never forsake you."2. But we do not find Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) wealthy after his prophet hood. He did nothave even enough food to eat.Anas b. Malik reported:I visited Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) one day and found him sitting in thecompany of his Companions and talking to them, and he had tied his belly with a bandage.Usama said: I am in doubt whether there was stone on that (his belly) or not. I asked someof his Companions why Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had bandaged his belly. They said: (He has done that to relieve) his hunger. I went to Abu Talha, the husband of Umm Sulaim, the daughter of Milhan, and said to him: Father, I saw Allah's Messenger(may peace be upon him) having bandaged his belly. I asked some of his Companions (thereason of it) and they said that it was due to hunger. Abu Talha came to mv mother andsaid: Is there anything? She said: Yes, I have some pieces of bread with me and somedates. If Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) comes to us alone we can feed him to
his fill, but if someone comes along with him this would be insufficient for them. (

We went to the Prophet and said, "Here is a rock appearing acrossthe trench." He said, "I am coming down." Then he got up, and a stone was tied to his bellyfor we had not eaten anything for three days. So the Prophet took the spade and struck thebig solid rock and it became like sand. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to go home."(When the Prophet allowed me) I said to my wife, "I saw the Prophet in a state that Icannot treat lightly. Have you got something (for him to eat?" She replied, "I have barleyand a she goat."

We used to fightin Allah's Cause while we had nothing to eat except the leaves of the Hubla and the Sumurtrees (desert trees) so that we discharged excrement like that of sheep (i.e. unmixeddroppings). Today the (people of the) tribe of Bani Asad teach me the laws of Islam. If so,then I am lost, and all my efforts of that hard time had gone in vain.

Andthere is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience."

3. We find that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to distribute the wealth which used tocome to him through the booty in wars and charities given by people to everyone and doesnot keep anything with himself.
Booty in Hunain:
The booty was six thousand captives, twenty four thousand camels; over forty thousandsheep and four thousand silver ounces.Abu Sufyan bin Harb was given a hundred camels and forty (gold) ounces and yet he said, “What about my son, Yazeed’s Share?” So he was given the same quantity for his son aswell. But yet he exclaimed: “And what about the share of Mu‘âwiyah, my second son?” Sothe Prophet (peace be upon him) gave Mu‘âwiyah as much as he gave his father andbrother.Hakeem bin Hizam was given a hundred camels, but he was given a hundred more when hedemanded.Safwan bin Omaiyah was given three hundred camels - a hundred camels at each time. It isthus mentioned in Shifâ, Book by Qadi Iyadh. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave Al-Harith bin Harith bin Kilda a hundred camels. He also gave some chiefs of Quraish and otherclans a hundred camels; he gave others fifty and some others had forty. Eventually it wasspread among people that “Muhammad grants generously and fears not to grow poor.” Thismade Bedouins gather around him expecting to be given some wealth. They were so manythat they forced the Prophet (peace be upon him) to seek refuge against a tree and theyeven took away his garment, “O people!“ He said, “Give me back my garment! For I swearby the One in Whose Hand is Muhammad’s soul, that if I had as many numerous camels asthe number of Tihama trees, I would distribute them among you. You know quite well that Iam neither mean nor coward or a liar.” Standing by his camel he plucked out a hair of his camel’s hump and held it between histwo fingers, lifted it up and said: “O people, I swear by Allâh that I get nothing but one-fifthof your booty, and this very fifth goes back to you.As soon as he had given the newconverts, the Messenger of Allâh (peace be upon him) ordered Zaid bin Thabit to fetch thebooty and summon people. Then he ordained shares to people. A footman’s share was fourcamels and forty sheep, and a horseman would take twelve camels and a hundred andtwenty sheep.
A man came to profit and asked for some financial help, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did nothave anything to give to him, and afterwards two more men came to him for same purpose. Then another man came and gave 4 ounces of silver in charity. The Prophet distributed oneounce to each of the three persons and announced that whoever wants the remaining oneounce, he can take it, but no one came to take it. Then it is narrated from Aisha PBUH thatat that night, the prophet was very uncomfortable, he used to do some rest then wake up
