A translation from a Hindi story meant for children “Fizoolkhartch” akaSpendthrift written by an eminent Hindi Writer Dr. Narendra Kohli “
“Abhudaya” and” Todo Kara Todo”
Whenever I see my father spending money at his free will I feel jealous. Itoo wish, if , I could stand in front of any shop, purchase anything I want and givewhatever amount of money that shopkeeper asked, from my pocket. I do notunderstand why I should take permission from my father for what I want to spend. He is free to spend wherever, whenever and whatever money he wants and I haveto take permission for even chick lets and chocolates. And he never gives ‘this’ permission without insult. He asks so many questionswhat to say, “Which company’s chocolate I will take? How many chocolates I willtake? From which shop I‘ll take them?” Phew…One day father gave me twenty rupees to purchase books. I bought booksof rupees fifteen from the school book shop. Five rupees still remained. I keptthem in my pocket. Entire day that five rupee note was in my pocket. I felt sogood. In the heart of my heart I was feeling like my father, “Yah I have five rupeesin my pocket I too can spend them wherever, whenever and whatever the way Iwant and there is no one to ask. My heart was full of joy.But in the evening when father came he asked for the account of the money hegave in the morning.
