If you have not already heard, Beethoven Elementary has been
notified that our Special Day Class (SDC) is scheduled to close for the next
school year, 2010-2011. Beethoven will be left with only a Resource
Program to provide services for our students who are academically
struggling and facing other issues impacting their education.

LAUSD is making severe cuts to Special Education despite receiving
almost $134,000,000 in Federal Stimulus money specifically for Special Ed.
We need to stand together and communicate to the district that closing our
Special Day Class is not acceptable. We need our SDC, as it is an integral
part of our learning community. Through a collaborative and co-teaching
model Special and General education students have greatly benefited. As a
distinguished learning community, we remain dedicated to providing an
enriched and balanced educational program for all our students. In order to
continue servicing all students, we need the SDC to remain open.
