manage, design and supervise a broad range of projects such asindustrial projects (energy production, transport and distribution,manufacturing and processing industries), infrastructure (transportsystems, hydraulic systems and ports), building construction (officebuildings, hospitals, universities and schools, etc), agriculturaldevelopments and projects for the conservation of nature.Engineering consultants maintain quality and a sustainable environmentin the projects they manage and design, and take into consideration notonly technical, economic and environmental elements, but alsoarchitectural elements in partnership with the architects.In most projects, engineering consultants and architects co-operate asprofessional partners.However, the legal protection offered to both partners differs in somecountries, resulting in a situation were the partners do not benefit fromequal status, which can impair the good practice of their professions.
The various engineering consultants are:
CIVIL ENGINEERStructural engineer
Structural engineering involves the analysis and design of physical objects such asbuildings, bridges, equipment supports, towers and walls.
Those concentrating onbuildings are responsible for the structural performance of a large part of thebuilt environment and are, sometimes, informally referred to as "buildingengineers"
. Structural engineers require expertise in strength of materialsand intheseismic designof structures covered byearthquake engineering. ArchitecturalEngineers sometimes practice structural as one aspect of their designs; the structuraldiscipline when practiced as a specialty works closely with architects and other engineeringspecialists.
