big-multi-purpose-bag tutorial

Materials:
Fabric for the outside: 2x 50x57cm
Fabric voor the inside: 2x 50x57cm
Fabric for the handles: 2x 20x50 cm
For the in- and outside I use canvas-like fabrics. Ikea has a nice collection of these thicker fabrics. For the
handles you can use any kind of fabric. Mine are always made of linen, which contrasts nicely with the big
prints. All measurements are including 1 cm seam-allowance.

Instructions:
1. Put the two pieces of fabric for the outside on top of eachother, good side facing inwards. Sew the two
long sides and one short side together. Leave the top open. Take the fabric for the inside and do exactly
the same.
2. To make a square- or boxbottom you’ll need to sew off both corners. Take a corner and fold the seams
on top of eachother. Trace a line and put a pin there where the width is 10 cm (5 cm on each side of the
seam). Do the same for the other corner. Now sew over these lines and cut of the outer triangles.
3. Turn the outside-bag right side out. And place the inner-bag inside, placing the corners exactly in the
corners of the other bag. Now fold the upper edges inwards (between the two layers, about 1,5 cm) and
pin the two bags together. Start by pinning the seams on top of eachother.
4. Fold the fabric for the handles in the length. Sew the long side together and sew one short into a pointy
end. Turn and Iron. Slide the handles between the in- and outside bag on the side where the seams are.
Pin.
5. Now sew around the top of the bag, about 1 cm from the edge, sewing the two layers together and the
handles in between. Knot the handles.
