 Dear student  
Welcome to Connaught Hall. We are a fullycatered University of London intercollegiatehall of residence for full-time students from allthe colleges and institutes of the University. Weaim to provide a secure, supportive, friendly, and
tolerant environment in which our 225 residents
can study, relax, and socialise. There is an evenmix of men and women and a great diversity ofcultural and social backgrounds. Most residents
are rst-year undergraduates, with 10-20% being
allowed to return for a second year; approximately
10% are postgraduates. About a third are overseas
students.
In addition to this leaet, I strongly urge you to
take a look at our Residents’ Handbook, availablefrom

, which containsdetailed information about the Hall which you
will nd essential during your stay.
Many residents are experiencing life away from
home for the rst time; for some, home is onthe other side of the world. And whilst London
is undoubtedly a vibrant, exciting place, in cansometimes be a lonely and impersonal city inwhich to live. So at Connaught Hall we hope tobe a warm and welcoming “home from home”.

Reception & conta details
Reception is open  hours a day. The receptionistsare responsible for security at the Hall’s mainentrance, greeting guests and visitors, answeringcalls at the main switchboard, sorting mail, andacting as a rst point of contact from whereenquiries can be directed to other members of sta.You can call reception on extension 8200.Services available from reception include:photocopying,sending and receiving faxes,gue bed hire and gue meal ticket purchases,packed / late supper reques,keys for the gym and ore rooms,replacement light bulbs,magazines, audiovisual equipment, ortsequipment, and board games.

H BD CThe Bursars and their team are full-time staresponsible for nance, catering, maintenance,telephone, internet, housekeeping, bed & breakfast,conferences, and security; they can be contacted viareception during working hours. Between them,they look aer several halls of residence but thereis always at least one member of sta on site atConnaught Hall during oce hours.
Ofce hours: Monday – Friday, 8.00 am – 6.00 pm.
Warden’s team
The Warden, assisted by ve Senior Members, isresponsible for welfare, discipline, communityand social life, out-of-hours emergencies, andreadmissions. The Warden’s team are all residentin Hall and undertake their duties on a part-time basis. The Warden works full-time as an accident& emergency doctor at a London teaching hospital,and the Senior Members are all experiencedstudents within the University. They can oersupport and guidance with academic diculties,medical or emotional problems, social concerns,nancial worries, noisy neighbours, disputes,harassment, and many other issues. They alsowork with the Residents’ Club Commiee to helpco-ordinate social activities in Hall.If you want to discuss anything with a memberof the team, you are welcome to approach themany time you see them in Hall, email them at

You can drop in to see the Warden in his ocewithout an appointment at advertised open ocesessions (

There is a Duty Senior Member contactable viareception at nights and weekends to help with anyemergencies while the ofce is closed.

(E.g. injury, illness, leak, electrical fault, intruders, lostkeys, serious noise disturbance.)
There is always a member of sta available in Hall.Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Ask the receptionistrst (internal extension ); they will contactthe best person to help you. The number for allemergency services in the  is ; from yourroom, you need to dial -.
 Accommodation fees
Fees must be paid within the rst two weeksof October, January, and April. Any additionalinvoices must be paid within one week of the issuedate.The Bursar’s sta are responsible for collectingfees, so you should speak to a member of sta inthe oce as soon as possible if you anticipate anyproblems.We advise you to pay your fees online at
hps://epay.london.ac.uk
. The site will allow youto pay your whole invoice or to set up a paymentplan in monthly or termly instalments. You canalso pay be cheque at the Bursar’s Oce. To pay by credit card or cash, you must visit the oce atHughes Parry Hall in Cartwright Gardens.
Contra & room swaps
For information about your period of occupancy,your deposit, what to do when you leave the Hall,and rebates for meals not taken during vacationperiods, see the Residents’ Handbook and LicenceAgreement. Ask a member of sta in the Bursar’sOce if you need help with these maers.Room allocations and swaps either within theHall or to/from other halls are administered bythe Intercollegiate Halls Accommodation Bureau(
