Editorial note
:
No attempt has been made to retain the pagination of the
1889
edition. Spelling, style, &c., have been retained (with the exception that a few manifest typographical errors have been corrected), including Blavatsky’s transliterations of technical Pali and Sanskrit terms. Blavatsky’s “translator” credit is believed to be spurious, in that while this work probably contains more influence from genuine Tibetan Buddhist sources than Aleister Crowley was prepared to concede in his commentary on it (“Liber LXXI” in
Equinox
 III (
1
), &c.), as regards the actual content H.P.B. was rather the author and the introduction is for the most part a mass of misinformation. Footnotes in square brackets are by the creator of the present electronic text; all others appeared in the print edition and are presumably due to the author.
