Description

This essay is primarily concerned with existing power relations among minorities in today’s society. We begin with Simone de Beauvoir’s analysis of the subjugation of women, and use this discussion to springboard into the idea that her ideas can be expanded to encompass not only women, but most minorities. In order to gain a better idea of the existing power relations among majorities and minorities, we attempt to look at Freud and Focault’s idea of society and civilization, and how societies and civilizations shape the individuals that comprise them. Finally we conclude with the thought that although economic conditions have allowed for greater equality than before, that is, that capitalism tends to break down discriminatory barriers, minorities will never truly be free of their subjugation unless society is made more aware of their existence, and culturally highly the diversity of the human race rather than limit it.

Jason, you did an outstanding job on this paper!
Bravo!
It is certainly is not easy to break down Freudian concepts and make them truly understandable to lay-persons.

I found this article because I searched Scribd for "Minority" - yours was the only Document of noteworthy caliber in my language.

I am deeply appreciative. I plan to share your Doc with many, many other people in my area.

Here in the Deep South of the United States, discrimination and poverty in rural areas remains a huge issue for Minorities and Women.

My most recent project is as webmaster for the newly formed Minority Builder's Association - Networking and Government Contracting Partnerships for Minority Owned Businesses in South Carolina.

I will share this informative and much appreciated article (research document) at the very next meeting.

You have accomplished breaking down the subject matter into smaller bites that I can easily use as an outline (giving you full credit, of course) to help others understand some of the concepts of "WHY" there remains a bridge to be gapped.

Thank you for sharing you hard work with us. It will go to good use. The really neat thing about Scribd is that by making such thoughtful and educated works available to us online - they have created a portal for sharing educated works that help humanity.

That may sound grandois, but when you are faced with trying to help Minority Business Owners have a competitive edge in life and grow their Business to the sustenance and well-being of their Family, it seems a monumental task.

Ironically, here in the "Deep South", those considered "Minorities" are actually in the majority of the population...and still there remains repression of their worth and stature in our Community, as Business Owners, as individuals...as second-class citizens.

Thanks again for sharing this wonderful Doc. Very Good Job!
