Hunger on the Rise
World hunger and malnutrition were on thedecline for much of the late 20
th
century. Butafter falling to 825 million in the mid-1990s thenumber of hungry people began to rise,reaching 915 million in 2008. In 2009 it jumped to over 1 billion. With a business-as-usual approach to agriculture, population, andenergy, 1.2 billion or more people will behungry by 2015.
