With regret for our city organization and best wishes for her, | am today announcing the re
Laurie Evans, Director of the Dallas Public Libraries System, effective June 2, 2010. Mrs
employed by the City of Dallas for nearly 25 years of service to the Dallas Public Library,
Mrs. Evans has been an energetic innovator during her tenure as director, She establishe
Northpark Center, a one af a kind children's library in partnership with a shopping mall, Wi
elected officials within both the city and the school district over many years motivating het, Mt
a project which developed and opened two co-located libraries in cooperation with Dallas Ind
Distrit, which have become models nationwide for such cooperative ventures. A Discover
transport children in real time to the four comers of the world is a signature feature of the
Children's Center downtown to be opened this winter. The Every Child Ready to Read in
which she began, has reached over 40.000 children in our community.
Her tenure has been marked by successful philanthropy and grant programming, more than :
each of the past three years and year to date, nearly $600,000 to supplement city dollars i
library's work, With an engaged, enthusiastic Friends group, she has added a second boo!
programs. Additionally, she has managed an extensive constructon program overseeing the
fioors of the Central Library along with two renovations, six replacements, and four new cor
branch libraries.
‘With professionalism and commitment, she has worked dligentty to assure thatthe library rer
impactful in a dramatically changing world, faced with severe economic challenges, Usage of
Library, which has grown 50% over the last five years, is testimony to her success.
