Laterryal Savoy

Wide Receiver—University of Michigan

Who is Laterryal Savoy?

Laterryal Savoy is a gifted and agile wide receiver, who runs perfect routes and has
tremendous hands. In his pro day training, Laterryal has earned the nickname: “Mr.
Consistency,” from renowned Michigan trainer, Mike Barwis.

The Michigan Wide Receiver Tradition

Laterryal Savoy was highly recruited out of Mamou, Louisiana. During his sophomore season, Savoy saw
game action, but he was playing behind future NFL Players: Mario Manningham, Steve Breaston and Adrian
Arrington. By the end of his sophomore season at Michigan, Savoy was slotted to become the next in the long
tradition of pro-style receivers.

The Rodriguez Era Changed the Landscape

Following Savoy’s Sophomore Season, Head Coach Lloyd Carr retired. With the hiring of new Head Coach
Rich Rodriguez, the Michigan offensive scheme underwent a radical transformation. Unlike the Carr Scheme,
the Rodriguez Scheme is designed for small, slot-type receivers. There are very few plays primarily designed
for pro-style wide-outs. Accordingly, but for the Rodriguez coaching
change, Savoy would have been a two year starter and compiled the typi-
cal Michigan wide-out statistics.1

Savoy’s Commitment to His Team

Despite the transformation of the Michigan offense, which not only cut his
playing time, but greatly impacted his NFL draft stock, Savoy never com-
plained. Instead, he worked twice as hard, in his training and condition-
ing. He also worked hard on his routes. Savoy learned a new offense and
supported his new coaches. Likewise, he contributed on the field (such as
catching big time passes in the last drive against Notre Dame). Moreover,
he was a leader off the field, such as leading the team in pre-game prayer.

Savoy’s Future is Bright

Now, Laterryal Savoy looks forward to the opportunity to demonstrate that
he has all of the tools to join the tradition of the Michigan receivers listed herein. He knows he has work to do,
but ask his trainers, his teammates, or his coaches and you will find that no one doubts that Laterryal Savoy
has the requisite talent, character and work ethic to succeed at the next level.
