The early of Javanese
• Early Javanese come from Austronesia
community from Yunan.
• They comes trough Semenanjung Malaysia and
separate all over Nusantara.
• So, Javanese and Malays are come from the
same ancestors.
• In early 1990s, around 70million Javanese that
majority lives in East Java and Central Java and
the rest lived in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi
and other island.
• They live in their own villages or kampong
typically situated on the edge of rice fields,
surrounding a mosque or along the road.
• Javanese are an ethnic group native to the
Indonesia island of Java, as 2004 around
90million live there
• But due the migration within Indonesia
there are now high population Javanese
people almost all the Indonesia provinces.
The physical surrounding
• Java, includes Sumatra to the northwest
and Bali to the east.
• Borneo to the north and Christmas Island
to the south
• It is the world’s 13th largest island
• Java entirely of volcanic origin (no fewer
than 38 mountains.
• The mountains and highlands help to split
the interior into a series of relatively
isolated regions suitable for wet-rice
cultivation.
• The island is administratively divided into 4
provinces (Banten, West Java, Central
Java and East Java),1 special region
(Yogyakarta) and one capital (Jakarta)
The economy system
• Javanese spirit of gotong-royong (mutual
aid) in economics.
• In village, economics associations take the
form of village cooperatives which
distribute rice seeds, rear goats or
culcative fish to provide additional food.
• They also jointly other agriculture
equipment called “lumbung pantun” which
can be borrowed on a mutual basis.
• They also tends to see economics life as a
matter of fate which determines that
people work hard simply to earn their daily
food.
• They also believe concept “ihtiyar”.
• The economics life influences the political
and religious life.
• The industrializations process creates a
‘’technocratic state”.
The Social System
• There are 90 millions Javanese in
Indonesia, 1 million in Malaysia,
500,000 in Netherlands and many more.
• Javanese is a race, not a religion so
their social system are based on their
religion.
• Early Javanese has social hierarchy
based on Hindus hierarchy but when
Islam spreading to Java Island, the
social system was changed to Islamic
Social System.
• Javanese is a loyal community, the always obey
they Sultan’s command but nowadays, there is
no kingdom exist in Indonesia. The monarchy
was replaced by Democracy System.
• Village neighborhood social system is the most
important social system in Javanese villagers
society. They were differentiated into smaller
units knows as ‘Rukun Kampung’ or ‘Rukun
Tetangga’.
• In Rukun Tetangga the villagers doing a lot of
things together such as marriage, ‘Yasinan’,
‘Lagan’ and so much more.
The Costume and Culture
Music:-
Gamelan ~ consists a bronze gongs, gong-chimes,
mettallophones, drums, one or more flute, bowed
and plucked string instruments, and sometimes
singers.

The Wayang Kulit
Language
• Has 6 vowel and 20 consonant
phonemes.
• The Javanese language has nine levels
range from low to high, reflecting
status, age and familiarity between
speakers.
