Business Card
Card
Business
Description:
A personal business card using a personal logo.
Date:
February 28, 2016
Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Design Process:
I created all the shapes in Adobe Illustrator, starting first with the gecko. I studied a few
pictures of geckos to get their general shapes, then looked for inspiration on how to
simplify, drew out a silhouette on paper, then used the pen tool and paint brush tool
(expanding the stroke to create shapes where needed). After the gecko, I started on the JC/H
shape by simply using the title font shown below. I turned those into outlines, then also
made them into one shape. As I made the shapes, the colors began to come into mind, and
slowly the rest of the design. In Adobe inDesign, I arranged some of the layout to finish it
off.

Letterhead
Description:
Letterhead based on the logo and business card
Date:
February 28, 2016
Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign
Design Process:
After creating the business card in Illustrator, I used a lot of the same ideas to create the
heading, piecing the parts together. In Adobe inDesign, I arranged the layout, including
the gecko shape for a watermark. I found ways to add shapes and add rhythm, such as
the arrows to lead the eye to other parts of the design.

Montage Card
Business
Description:
A montage of several images and a text quote.
We were to make a montage from at least two images with a spiritual topic in mind,
whether it be a quote, scripture, or a thought. There were to be no hard edges in the
images that we add to the project.
Date:
February 14, 2016
Programs Used:
Adobe Photoshop
Design Process:
I started off by thinking of general ideas of layout, where I might place the text, and what
kind of message I wanted. After finding an image that fit both the layout and the topic,
I searched for another picture that could add to the design, and used the clouds only. I
then duplicated the layers and reflected them to put lightly in the water. Later, I added
birds to give more interest to the design, since it was rather weighted to the left side. I
found an image with stars and took the stars to put barely in the corners. I then took the
brush tool and made a dot, then smudged it enough to shape a shooting star, duplicated
it twice, then added gaussian blur. After rasterizing the text without realizing, I had to
find a way to make the text more readable, so I used a paintbrush again and gaussian
blur.

Brochure

Back Cover

Description:
A two sided (offset) folding brochure.
Date:
March 27, 2016
Programs Used:
Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Photoshop
Design Process:
After an hour or so of making sketches of a logo, I brought the design to Illustrator and used
the pen tool and ellipse tool to make the shapes. I sketched a few designs on paper for the
layout and finally settled on one that I knew would be frustrating to me, but I was interested
in trying to make it work. After making the layout in Adobe InDesign, I added in the actual
content.
I used a few custom shapes in InDesign with the pen tool for the inside. The images I used
were intended to display the products and services available.
For the guitar and drum set, I used Adobe Photoshops quick-selection tool to edit out the
backgrounds and masking tool and paint brush to select a better edge.

Web Page
Description:
This is a webpage for showcasing my personal logo.
Date:
March 13, 2016
Programs Used:
Notepad++, Adobe Photoshop
Design Process:
I created this web page with Notepad++. I had very little experience with HTML/CSS before
this project. I was able to see how things can come together with just text. There are a lot of
different options in what you can do with CSS, so Ill be happily learning more about it.
First, we made the general content and design for the page by writing about our logo process
in HTML, then inserted my image. After, we attached a pre-made CSS document as external
styling. I changed the colors to the webpage to match my scheme. I had to use Photoshop
and the eyedropper tool. I changed fonts, and added a few other shapes by using DIVs and
learning what I can do with those. I centered the logo and experimented with columns for the
text and also how to make a NAV for the page. I learned how to make the nav and get it on
the page, but was unsuccessful in making it look how I wanted. I will work on this later, so
for now, I have it commented on my CSS, so it is not on this screenshot.

Photo Design

Design Process:
We started by making a design and sketching it, then took pictures, then used photoshop to
design. Our color scheme had to match the photo, so we kept that in mind as we prepared.
After making adjustments to the image, I began to incorportate the designs and the color
scheme and added a quote to give a more defined message to the image.

Half-Note Music

Logo Design
Description:
Three different color schemes of a custom logo.
We were to make a company logo fit for an audience of our choosing. As a musician myself,
I mainly focused on those who love music, and considered a business or shop that would be
using this logo.
Date:
February 21, 2016
Programs Used:
Adobe Illustrator
Design Process:
I first put my ideas on paper, exploring creative ways to use the H symbol that are actually
my initials. After deciding on a few that I liked on paper, I used illustrator to begin making
the shapes. I used the pen tool for everything that is not lettering, and the ruler tool at times
to be sure that some of the lines were relatively close to equal. After making a few designs,
I talked to 10 people to get their votes on favorite design. The results were on this design,
taking almost 70% percent of the votes.
After the votes, I changed the colors to show how they would look in different settings of
design uses.

Event Flyer
Description:
An event flyer of a fictional event. We were given the limitations that we could only use
Microsoft Word to design the flier, and that we must include the date, time, place, price,
beneficiary, benefactor, and event.
Date:
January 31, 2016
Programs Used:
Microsoft Word
Design Process:
We started by brainstorming ideas for an event, then we sketched out a few designs. After
preparing those ideas and sketches, we looked in magazines or used professionally printed
photos to illustrate or add to the message. We then scanned the image and adjusted the
quality to meed our needs. We were limited to using only Microsoft Word, as if the company
we were designing for wanted to spend as little money as possible. I made a small logo of
the letters J and H (a childhood nickname of Jonny Hopper) for the benefactor and a fictional
author as the beneficiary of the event.

Design Process:
We started by brainstorming layouts, and we sketched out a few. We put into practice what
we had learned in classes about white space and alignent. Using the pictures and logos
provided for us, we fit the content into our designs. We were given the text and information
to use on the flier, and several pictures and logos to choose from.
