OF THE
INTERNATIONAL CODE FOR THESAFE CARRIAGE
OF
GRAIN
IN
BULKThe Maritime Safety Committee,RECALLING Article 28(b) of the Convention on the International MaritimeOrganization concerning the functions of the Committee,NOTING part C of revised chapter VI of the International Convention for the Safetyof Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS 74), adopted by resolution MSC.22(59) which,
inter
alia,
makes the provisions of the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulkmandatory under that Convention,

HAVING CONSIDERED the text of the proposed Code,

which is set out in the Annex to the present resolution;ADOPTS the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk, the text
of

DECIDES that the Code shall take effect on
1
January 1994; and
3.
REQUESTS the Secretary-General to transmit to the Members of the Organizationand all Contracting Governments to SOLAS 74 certified copies
of
the present resolutionand the Code.
ANNEX
PART ASPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

APPLICATION1.1 This Code applies to ships regardless of size, including those of less than
500
tonsgross tonnage, engaged in the carriage of grain in bulk, to which part C
of
chapter VI ofthe 1974 SOLAS Convention, as amended, applies.1.2 For the purpose of this Code:

he expression “ships constructed” means “ships the keels of which are laid or whichare at a similar stage of construction”.
