Messages from the Mountain
Two farewells…
The coming weeks bring two bittersweetfarewells. For four years, Temple Mount Sinai has beena part of
 Jordana Chernow-Reader’s
rabbinical education. As a rabbinical intern, Jordana visited El Paso a few times eachyear, working in the pulpit and in theReligious School. We’ve watched her growin confidence and develop her skills as ateacher and leader of worship. This year, hervisits took on a different format, as she camelate summer and fall (before her obstetriciantold her to stay off of airplanes!), focusing onour Face to Face initiative. Jordana becomes
Rabbi
Chernow-Reader onSunday morning, May 16, at a service ofOrdination in Los Angeles. She’ll come backto us in El Paso once again on May 28-29,and we’ll have the opportunity to wish herwell at our Kabbalat Shabbat evening serviceand at the Oneg prior to the service. On June 4, we’ll bid a fond farewell toanother religious leader who’s been a bit of afixture around Temple for a number of years
:Rev. John Stowe.
Father John and I haveteam-taught classes at Temple and aroundtown, and worked together on various issuesof common interest. His tenure in El Pasowas quite lengthy by the standards of hisFranciscan order, but the time has come forhim to take up new responsibilities in a newsetting.Father John will be moving from El Paso atthe end of June, and during a very busy“farewell tour” within the diocese he hasserved so faithfully, he’s carved out sometime to be with us for a Friday eveningservice. Father John has been a good friendto the Jewish community, and we will misshis presence. Please be with us on May 28 and June 4 tohonor and thank Rabbi Jordana and Father John for their friendship and leadership.
Rabbi Bach
