The WRIT 1622 Documentary Film Festival

T he Writing Program is proud to announce an exhibition of student
created film: Objects of Interest: The WRIT 1622 Documentary Film
Festival.
⊗ the films
Each student filmmaker will create a 10–15-minute documentary
about a place, person, idea, event, artwork, or other “object” that
fascinates, infuriates, inspires, or amazes him or her, and that s/he
believes can — through the rhetorical art of documentary film — be
made similarly compelling to a broad and diverse community. The
filmmakers will use their knowledge of rhetoric to explore their
objects in all of their multidimensional complexity.

⊗ the festival
The festival will be held online, when the “Rewriting the Rhetoric”
website is constructed during the last weeks of the quarter. To
make their work accessible to the website, the filmmakers will
upload their work to YouTube or another video host.

⊗ the preparation
• Brainstorming session, Thursday, 2/11, 10–12, in Daniels 220. Film-
makers will share their Documentary Worksheets.
• Ad hoc workshop: Tuesday, 2/16, 10–12, at Jazzman’s Café.
Festival director John Tiedemann will be available for one-on-
one consultations with filmmakers.
• Studio time: Thursday, 2/18, 10–12, in Daniels 220. Filmmakers will
bring rough cuts of their documentaries to class, to share with
other filmmakers for advice.

Filmmakers will upload a revised rough cut to YouTube or a
similar site, so that the festival director can offer feedback.
