Endangered Species Background

Forest Management Plans (FMPs) provide a proven, effective and efficient means of providing
for species at risk, including Red Shouldered Hawk, Forest-Dwelling Woodland Caribou, Bald
Eagle and Massassauga Rattlesnake. For example, since the implementation of the Bald Eagle
Habitat Management Guide in 1987, the Bald Eagle has been down-listed from endangered to
special concern status in Northern Ontario. Coincidently, the Bald Eagle remains endangered in
Southern Ontario.
