Wells Dam
A 15 minute drive north from Chelan on
U.S. Highway 97 takes visitors to Wells
Dam. The hydroelectric facility is operated
by Douglas County Public Utility District.
The dam is also the site of a state-operated
fish hatchery that raises salmon and steel-
head for the Columbia River and its tribu-
taries.
At the visitor center and overlook, visi-
tors can check out the dam’s 10 turbines
and learn about hydroelectric power gen-
eration. The visitor center also presents

Entiat Valley
The City of Entiat sits at the mouth of the
Entiat River some 20 miles south of Chelan.
On the banks of Lake Entiat, the city bills
itself as the “Gateway to Recreation.”
Entiat River Road extends up the river
for 30 miles. Though much of the valley
floor is private property, a short trip up any
side road leads to National Forest lands.
Several campgrounds are open during
the summer months. Nearby trails lead to
majestic waterfalls, glassy lakes and crown-
ing peaks.
For more information, call the Entiat
Ranger District at 509-784-1511.
