 Chelan Fish Hatchery 

Located near the Columbia River north
of Chelan Falls, Chelan Fish Hatchery is
a state fish hatchery, working in concert
with the Chelan County Public Utility Dis-
trict and local outdoor sporting groups.
One of the main focuses of the hatchery
is raising rainbow and cutthroat trout
that end up in lakes and rivers in Chelan,
Douglas, Kittitas and Okanogan counties.
Visitors are welcome at the hatchery
Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to

by appointment. Call the hatchery at 509-

 Wells Dam 
A 15 minute drive north from Chelan on
U.S. Highway 97 takes visitors to Wells
Dam. The hydroelectric facility is operated
by Douglas County Public Utility District.
The dam is also the site of a state-operated
fish hatchery that raises salmon and steel-
head for the Columbia River and its tribu-
taries.
At the visitor center and overlook, visi-
tors can check out the dam’s 10 turbines
and learn about hydroelectric power gen-
eration. The visitor center also presents
local history and information about salmon Tours are available by calling 509-923-

 Pateros & Brewster 
The quiet communities of Pateros and
Brewster are just inside a half hour’s drive
north from Chelan on U.S. Highway 97.
The two communities sit on the banks of
Lake Pateros, where recreational opportu-
nities include boating, rafting, water-skiing,
wakeboarding and more.
Follow the Methow Valley Highway
(State Route 153) from Pateros to explore
the Methow Valley.

 Rocky Reach Dam 

Showcased on a 2009 episode
of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty
Jobs,” Rocky Reach Dam is lo-
cated 30 miles south of Chelan
on U.S. Highway 97A.
A highlight of any visit to the
Rocky Reach Visitor Center is
the opportunity for a closeup
view of fish passing through the
fishway through five windows
into the fish ladder. Visitors can
see salmon, steelhead, trout and
other fish species following their
upstream migration routes to
spawning areas.
Observation points overlook
the dam and Columbia River.
Several art, history and educa-
tion displays are exhibited at the
Museum of the Columbia.
Nearby, enjoy 19 acres of a.m. to 4 p.m. until Oct. 31. The grounds

ground. call 509-663-7522 or check out www.
The Visitor Center is open daily from 9 chelanpud.org.

 Entiat Valley 
The City of Entiat sits at the mouth of the
Entiat River some 20 miles south of Chelan.
On the banks of Lake Entiat, the city bills
itself as the “Gateway to Recreation.”
Entiat River Road extends up the river
for 30 miles. Though much of the valley
floor is private property, a short trip up any
side road leads to National Forest lands.
Several campgrounds are open during
the summer months. Nearby trails lead to
majestic waterfalls, glassy lakes and crown-
ing peaks.
For more information, call the Entiat
Ranger District at 509-784-1511.
