 Health
Philadelphia has an incredibly diverse population and so does SLA. They areboth affected by the same problems. One of the major political issues in the UnitedStates is healthcare. Right now not everyone has healthcare because not everyone canafford it. By the nurse¶s office there is information on how to receive healthcare. Thisinformation is given in both English and Spanish to accommodate anyone whose firstlanguage might be Spanish. The Hispanic population in the United States has been on the rise andPhiladelphia is no exception. In fact, ³The city's Hispanic population has grown 44.5%since 1990.´ As the Hispanic population grew the ³non-Hispanic white populationdeclined 17.3%.´ This leaves a population that is, on average, more economicallydisadvantaged and less likely to be able to pay for health insurance.Moore, Martha. ³Census: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh lose people.´ USA Today. Trade
All over the United States there are countless products reading ³Made in China.´The fact is that China is the United States¶ biggest trade partner, and in 2009, weimported $296.4 billion of goods from them. It is very hard to avoid Chinese products. This photo was taken in the SLA school store and shows the boxes that contain thebackpacks freshman receive. These goods need to be available cheaply, quickly, and in large amounts, making China the obvious choice. The United States is completely dependent onChinese goods in the same way that China is dependent on the United States¶spending. It¶s a perfect example of how international economies are intertwined.US-China Business Council. ³US-China Trade Statistics and China's World TradeStatistics.´ 1996. Web.
