Non-resistance to Evil
In some of its teachings, however, Christianity is apt tobe too one-sided and unpracticable. For instance, Jesus isreported to have said:“But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil, but whosoev-er shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the oth-er also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and takeaway thy coat, let him have thy cloak also, And whosoev-er shall compel three to go a mile, go with him twain”.(Matthew 5:39,41).This was perhaps a neccessary corrective to the hard-heartedness and vindictive spirit produced by the literalobscrvancc of the teaching of an eye, for an eye, and atooth for a tooth". But can this teaching of .'turn the othercheek also" be regarded as universal ? Can it be practisedas a wholesome moral precept in all cases and on all oc-casions '? good, it will only increase evil and human woe. Itwill encourage them to exploit and subdue othersand 'ncrease disorder and injustice. Islam declaresthat evil in all cases must be repelled. If the evil doercan be reformed and prevented from doing vioinceand injury by kindness and mercy, then there can benonthing better than this. But if kindness makes himbolder in doing harm to others, then chastise ment inproportion to the crime must be meted out to him.The teaching of the Ouran in this respect also 'is uni-versal and applicable to all cases. It says :"The good deed and the evil deed are not alike. Re-pel the evil deed with one which is good, then lo! he,between whom and thee there was enmity will be-come as though he was a bosom friend." (The Quran41:34)"The guerdon of an ill-deed is an ill the like there-of. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth (the evildoer by kindness and love), his wage is the affair of

Monssticism and Celibacy
Christianity is too other-worldly, Jesus Christ is re-ported to have told the people, "If a man come tome, and hatee not his father and his mother, andwife, and children, and bretheren, and sisters, yea.and his own life also, he cannot be my disciples."(L.ke 14:26) And again: ,whosoever he be of youthat forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be MYdisciple." (L,,k-c 14-.33) When a man told him thathe would follow him, but he should be allowed to goand bury his dead father, Jesus is reported to havesaid "Follow me; and let the dead bury the dead."(Matthew 8:22) He even told the people to "makethemselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven'ssake.” (Matthew 19: 12) The outcome of such ateaching can only be the production of stunted andcontorted hypocrites instead of full grown human
