Frank Fernandez
Introduction by Chaz Bufe
Anarchism was the driving force behind Cuba'srevolutionary and labor movements from their dawn untilwell into the 20th century.Anarchists bore primary responsibility for organizingworkers in Cuba's most important industries, tobaccoand sugar. At the height of their influence in the 1920s,Cuba's anarchists controlled the Cuban unionmovement, provided free nonreligious schools for poor children, provided meeting places for Cuba's workingclass, organized campesinos into unions and agriculturalcollectives, and published newspapers and magazinesacross the island. Later, they would take an active part inthe resistance to the Machado, Batista, and Castrodictatorships. This book presents their inspiring story.
