Assess mental status (orientation to time, place, person and date)
Use simple explanation
Provide memory aids (notes, pictures)
Give positive feedback for appropriate behaviors5.Improve airway clearance (ineffective airway clearance)
Monitor respiratory status
Encourage intake of 3L per day
May administer humidified oxygen6.Relieve pain and discomfort (Acute/ Chronic Pain related to tissueinflammation/destruction)
Administer pain relievers
Encourage to wear elastics stockings to equalize pressure7.Improve nutritional status (imbalance nutrition: less than body requirement relatedto altered ability to ingest/digest)
Monitor weight daily
Assess factors that may interfere with dietary intake
Control nausea and vomiting with antiemetics
Encourage to eat foods that are easy to swallow and to avoid rough and spicyfoods
Encourage to rinse mouth with lidocaine before meals to relieve pain uponeating
